I am taking 1300 mg of Sinemet and 3 mg of mirapex a day...is anyone else taking that high of a dosage or more?? ... side effects??
Hi
I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Parkinson's about 3 years ago at age 59...
I take 12 Sinemet (25/100) per day and 4 Comtan (200mg) - which extends "on time" of Sinemet with excellent result and no negatives... when I questioned my Neurologist about the higher dosage, he replied that he has many patients taking +30 Sinemet (25/100) with positive out come.....
I truly believe the "New Generation" of Specialist are recommending this higher dosage to obtain a therapeutic level in your body.... I spread out the dosage during my wake hours, and have found that if I'm in a situation where I can not take a dosage, I resume when I can with virtually no "off time" Alan
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member -- No I rarely lay down during the day, but his symptoms may differ from mine. I do not have issues with freezing up. Best to discuss with your Neurologist.
My husband takes one 50/200 in am upon waking, then two 25/100 at noon and again at suppertime and at bedtime he takes another 50/200 these are extended release tabs
Good discussion here...I would like to share my situation with you... I was diagnosed some 9-10 years ago and initially I attempted to go the natural route. I went to a naturopath and tried a couple of different therapies with little or no results. My tremors were getting so bad I couldn't brush my teeth or shave. So I decided to start medicinal therapy and I was first put on Azilect with no results, then Mirapex with little results... then Sinemet with the Mirapex and I began having really good results. I have been taking Sinemet with the Mirapex for approximately 6 years now and have gradually increased the dosage as my off time increases. Currently I take 350 mg 3 times a day and 250 1 time a day. I want to get the most out of life while I can and so I am willing to take the risk of potential side effects that comes with increased dosage. Oddly enough, I have had little or know side effects to date even though my dosage may seem a bit on the high side.
I also walk four miles a day and do push ups a few times a day (as many as I can each time) And my symptoms are barely noticeable.
