Could Checking This Site A Few Times A Day Be A Compulsive Behavior?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

People with Parkinson’s disease who take certain medications may develop impulse control disorder, which include behaviors such as compulsive eating, gambling, shopping or sexual activity. Among these medications are a class called dopamine agonists, which include bromocriptine (Parlodel®), pramipexole (Mirapex®), pramipexole dihydrochloride extended-release (Mirapex ER®), ropinirole (Requip®), ropinirole extended-release tablets (Requip® XL™), and rotigotine transdermal system (Neupro®). Hi there you guys. Well, I guess we are all suffering from OCB. I call checking this site as being interested in what is going on with an opportunity to learn something new about PD which will then, in turn, help you to help yourself, help another or even help many others. And those of us who are team leaders will and should feel responsible for their team members. Frankly, I'd rather be checking on what is going on within this site than watching TV or else whiling the day away in pain, fretting and stressing.

Can we go to unnecessary extremes and exaggerations?...of course...but checking this site, to me, is healthy, interested, involved and curious...not compulsive...nor dangerous, nor self-destructive. Think about it...then compare true compulsive behavior with our question. If you are spending hours each day online playing games, this could be considered a "coping mechanism"...or a distraction to "get on with a limited and boring existence". If our medications cause this behavior, ask yourself...which is worse, playing endless games or being painfully symptomatic from PD? If you are going to self-destructive extremes...you and others will know that you are up to "no-good." Checking this site should be considered "good". Compulsive behavior?...no..Sterling
