Could Azilect be causing my husband's RLS? He developed it immediately after switching from the Neupro patch (which worked great until he developed redness and burning). His neuro took him off the Azilect and now I'm afraid he'll start to advance more quickly. He is currently on carbidopa/levodopa 25-250 mg (he splits the tablet in half and takes 4x daily, and 0.5 mg Clonazepam taken at bedtime for anxiety. He tried a low dose of Ropinirole but it didn't seem to help. Thank you.
He takes what I take. They added Mirapex 1/2 a pill 3x a day. Worked for me.
Maybe increase the dose of Requip...the higher dosage helped my husband. He takes it 3 x a day with one of those at bedtime.
I agree with Flamingo, check your area for a MDS. I did for my husband and its like night and day. We travel all the way to Atlanta (over 100 miles one way) but it is worth it.
No, he's seeing a neuro who has a lot of experience with PD patients. I'm going to get him set up with a movement disorder specialist though. We live 20 minutes from USF in Tampa, one of the best facilities in the Southeast. He's been reluctant to change Drs but I think he is realizing that he needs to be more proactive and in charge of his life. They have numerous clinical trials going on there and are always looking for volunteers. Thank you for your advice. I'm new to this site and am grateful for guidance from you all!
RLS is not listed as a side effect of Azilect. In fact it is sometimes given as a treatment for RLS.
From : http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/azilect/rls
RLS is found among people who take Azilect, especially for people who are male, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for 2 - 5 years, also take medication Requip, and have Parkinson's disease. We study 1,552 people who have side effects while taking Azilect from FDA and social media. Among them, 6 have Rls.
So it seems rare, but you are not alone.
Would be a good question to discuss at your next Dr visit.
Good luck and good health.
