Medical Marijuana and Parkinson's by Rachel Dolhun, MD, Feb 01, 2016

Marijuana is derived from the plant Cannabis sativa, contains +60 different compounds referred to as cannabinoids. One major “psychoactive” component (THC) — which causes alterations in perception, mood and behavior. The ratio of THC to the other cannabinoid compounds, which do not have these psychoactive effects, varies from plant to plant and among the various formulations of medical marijuana. (CBD oils)

Hi @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member

Zanne, I never smoked either, this or cigarettes.... BUT, I am looking into other options, so when I get to point of needing them I'll be able to get them easily... I hope this answer some questions... Alan

FYI.... CBD oils are readily available online from very reputable medical suppliers, and I believe are legal in all 50 states... These are to be taken orally or can be used in bake goods, candy, topical, suppository, etc... I've read where some of its benefits are minimized when exposed to some high baking temperatures... Also in reading various posts, when CBD are used in edible products the effects take a while to build with your body's chemistry. Here is one source >> https://www.bluebird-botanicals.com/

Also there is this new way a vaping, which utilize the new type of electronic cigarettes where you can create your own flavor / strength of oils to refill your vaping device. Here is one source >> http://www.vapornation.com/vaporizers.html

I smoke on a regular basis (about 3 times a day after work, which ends at 1 pm) and have found that it works quite nicely in relaxing my muscles and relieving anxiety and depression. The downside - it can make me a bit too lazy and apathetic. I have to keep myself motivated to do things or the combo of PD apathy and MJ apathy set in for a really unproductive afternoon. It's definitely worth further studies as I truly believe it's an herb with enormous potential for many different diseases.

My reasons for smoking mj are two fold....1st and for most....I sleep 8 hrs. straight when I smoke one hit about 5:00 pm. I also have about 2 to 3 hrs. of wanting to dance, move, stretch, any kind of movement. I am really hoping that research into medical marijuana comes up with edibles or oils. I don't like the smoking part. I am on no PD medication....I would rather tremor than feel tired, apathy, and depression like I was on medication.
