Feeling Sick With A Cold Or Flu
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

does anyone fell like when they get sick with a cold or the flu that it feels ten times worse with parkinsons, because i feel pretty much dead when i get a bad cold or the flu, so much worse then before i had PD. Maybe it is just me!

Hello Ms. Bean. Actually, it is my opinion that a bad cold or flu aggregates any other ill-health condition you may have. A cold or flu will usually bring on a fever, coughing and congestion with lots of sputum to go with it. PD usually does not have these features. A serious flu illness can also bring on other diseases such as pneumonia. It takes about 2 weeks to get over a cold or flu (sometimes using antibiotics) but you don't get over PD (yet).

Have a good day dear one. Sterling

My doctor ask me to get a flu shot every year your doctor must have a reason for not wanting you having a flu shot. Have you ask the doctor why? Just wondering?

I agree that PD seems to make other illnesses worse. I have asthma, usually mild, and had an allergic reaction to mold a few weeks ago. My inhaler barely helped. It was four days before I could breathe normally. Our bodies are just different with PD and I am trying to accept that and learn patience, LOTS of patience!
