I've read lots of times about people having a diagnosis of PD after having had a scan. I wonder whether this is something I should have had? I was diagnosed following an thorough examination and history taking at my first visit to my neurologist.
Thank you for all your answers. I have an appointment shortly with my new neurologist, the original one has just retired, so I intend to discuss this with him. Also I'm going to ask about which stage I am as this is something that hasn't been discussed previously. I really appreciate all the comments as I'm finding it's helping me to understand the condition more fully. đź‘Ť
My husband's neurologist said a scan isn't always necessary. He has 4 of 4 criteria they look for in diagnosis and scan would only be an unnecessary expense, in his case.
I had a Dat scan at the Walton centre I didn't believe that I had Parkinson's so I asked for one
I had a datscan to confirm because I had confusing symptoms that showed both parkinsons and essential tremors. The datscan is pretty conclusive.
I think maybe diagnosis is based on symptoms reported. I had a DATscan which did show the decrease in Dopamine production
