I never imagined I had PD before getting my diagnosis.I knew I had a disease, but I didn't know which one.When my MDS told me that I had PD, I was completely shocked,overwhelmed.That was 5 years ago ; I had no knowledge about PD.I was misinformed like everybody else in the population.I thought Parkinson's only affected " old people "After my diagnosis, I did a lot of reasearch and I concluded that PD was in fact the disease I've been suffering since my late teens early 20s
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member what's PLS ?
Same
Yes, but I did not want it to be true. But it was.
Didn't really think about it. Wife was concerned bout my getting slow cognitively and falling asleep doing sudoku puzzles. Went to neurologist and started getting treated for tremors which I had had for umpteen years. After a year or so of treatment without much relief decided to go for DBS for the tremors. Between the neurosurgeon and MDS trying to rule out PD, I finally showed all three of four clinical criteria - tremors, rigidity, gait, I think. By then I was an "old person". After 5 years of PD diagnosis and DBS implants, I'm a new man - getting better all the time!
I was originally diagnosed with PLS. The diagnosis changed to PD after two years.
