I lost my sense of smell about 5-6 years ago. Yet now and again, I get a sense of smell but it is very strong. It seems for just a moment I can smell some things yet they are magnified ten times. Then the smell goes away. Does anyone else get this strong temporary sense of smell?
I lost my sense of smell about 3 years ago. I am a nurse and other nurses would talk about awful odors and I would comment I didnt smell a thing. Had no idea that it was from PD at the time.
I have had the same thing happen. It would be weird but I would smell something and it would be strong but very random.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member,
No, actually I still have a good sense of smell....and I think that I smell birthday cake!
Happy birthday! πππππππππ
I have lost my sense of smell also. My taste buds are inactive most of the time. Must plan to add flavor without spice.
There are many reports of people trying supplements which after only a few days, they find their sense of smell returning.
I experienced this when starting methyl folate supplements and reported it.
CliniCrowd, behind the study of Mannitol are reporting many of the participants recover their sense of smell, or like you in comes back in bursts.
The Parkinson's Improvement Programme (PiPs) reports sense of smell returning with their asorbic palmitate supplementation programme (this is the fat soluble version of Vitamin C).
So my suggestion is try to see if you can correlate your bursts of smell returning with what you've eaten!
I lost my sense of smell long before I was diagnosed with pd. Much worse is the fact that I'm now losing my sense of taste.
