Is there anyone that has had a gastric bypass and later diagnosed with Parkinson's? I had bypass in1987 and received PD diagnosis in 2013. The malabsorption I have from my bypass makes medication a nightmare. Anyone else?
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, I have to agree with David Bender, it's trial and error. Every time we see his neurologist and she decides she wants to change ,something, she says we'll try this or that and see what it gives us. the last time we left we had three different prescriptions to try (if one doesn't work, try the next and that doesn't work try the other) all in collaboration with the pharmacist of course. Does anyone know what they are doing out there???
I'm brand new, and I realize this post is quite old...
But I had RNY in 2005, and was medically retired with (now starting to be recognized as) Parkinsons symptoms in 2010.
Something I learned about my meds...
....if I swallow them on a spoon with a glob of hogh-protien yogurt (or something similar) It slows the absorption, and helps with my swallowing issues.
How are you doing now? Mu mother was diagnotic with PD now and had bypass bariatric in 2008. I am worried with this.
I agree, I leave the neurologist confused! Yesterday, she reduced my dosage of carbidopa/levedopa because I've been sick. She says, we'll see what happens, call me Monday and let me know how you are doing. Then come back in two weeks. Always changes!
I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with your meds. Unfortunately, it seems to be a trial and error affair..
