There is no denying the fact that I can't work as hard or as long as I did when I was younger or before I had PD. And getting a good night of sleep seems to also be a thing of the past. So I try to do the same things I need to do around the house in a more efficient way. I work in the yard until I get tired and then I stop and finish it the next day. I wash 1 car today and the other car the next day. When I try to read a book or the Bible I often doze off. I make sure I mark my place so I can pick up where I dozed off. As far as the depression is concerned, many of us who have PD because our brains are not producing enough dopamine also are depressed because our brains also are not producing enough seratonin, aren't we lucky. So I have been taking not only Sinemet, Selegeline and Mirapex for my PD but also Zoloft for my depression. Life is good and God still loves me even in my physical and emotional brokeness. God bless you all.

BarbaraGioioso, this is Dave. That is so sad that your family has experienced so many suicides. My wife's family has gone through the same thing. I know that PD has a genetic component as does almost all addictive behaviors so I wonder if the depression and anxiety issues that lead to suicide might also have a genetic component. Low levels of Seratonin in our brains causes depression and is common with us with PD so I bet that is the reason for the high incidents of suicide in our families and also all society. God bless you.

That is why exercise & staying active help so much - they raise the seratonin (and dopamine ) levels

Shirley, this is Dave responding. I am so sorry you had to go through all of those health issues with your husband. And the stress you have been under during all that time could be partially the cause of your PD. What you have experienced is absolutely heart breaking for me to read because it sounds like you went through it alone. No one can carry that much responsibility alone and not suffer for it emotionally, physically and spiritually. But I want to tell you that the concept that God will not give you more than you can handle is the most misquoted and misunderstood concept in the Bible. People need to know that this idea is taken from I Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear." So what people don't understand is that what He will not allow more than you can handle is temptation. Like Sherwon Frederick said the Bible is full of statements made by Jesus warning us about the fact we all will go through trials and tribulations. The absolute truth is that God will walk every step we take in life with us and not let us suffer alone. Here is a great verse that you might like. Psalm 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Shirley, we all love you and want you to know that you are precious in the sight of God, and He loves you more than you will ever know. He promises to "never leave you nor forsake you." We are all with you sweetheart and I will be praying for you. God bless you.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member God does only give us what we can handle. PD symptom is anxiety, restlessness, frustration, depression, chronic constipation, loss of sense of smell. So we must stay close to God and let Him handle it for us.
In the gospels He says "in this world you have tribulations, be of good cheer I have overcome the world". Think about that. He gave a Big price in Jesus's death so that we can overcome.
There are many reasons for suididal thoughts My father-in-law died from suicide. It is very hurtful for the family who are left.
We have these precious friends,PD friends, to help us get through.
I don't have all the answers, but I do have love ❤️ for you and what you face daily. Much love- Sherwon
