What Do You When Your Medication Makes You Sleepy All The Time?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question ๐Ÿ’ญ

My hubby just recently had one medication reduced, one doubled, and another new one added altogether. This now ties him to taking pills 5 times a day. He does his best to take them on time, but it is hard because he still has a job that he works at as a manager 12-14 hours a day. Well, this last trip that we made out of town, he could not help me to drive at all because he is tired from work all the time and now the new meds make him so sleepy for up to 2 hours after taking them. I am winding upโ€ฆ read more

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member For folks who qualify (less than 400-500% of Federal poverty level, usually) there is an organization called Patients Access Network Foundation https://www.panfoundation.org/ that will subsidize the out of pocket costs of some medications for patients with some conditions (Parkinson's included) - as long as they have funds available to commit. Big help with Rytary, even though insurance coverage has improved over last two years.
I used to have a great deal of drowsiness - now take a mild stimulant, which I have since found out that I am genetically predisposed to respond to with euphoria or giddiness. B-)

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member.
If he has to take these pills at work. How does he manage his job as the meds, make him sleepy for up to acouple of hours.The drive to & from work?First thing I would do is call his Neurologist if you can't talk to him.
talk to his N.P or one of his nurses Tell them what has happened, how & what he is doing that concerns you
As far as visiting family you may have to tell them they my be the ones traveling .Can understand you going
to see the family.รŒf you're from the same town you could see everyone at once.If they are the ones traveling
you won't see but, half at a time.Am sure he feels guilty about you having to do the driving.Am very sure you feel sorry for him but, at the same time you just want to punch,hurt someone or something.I know I did after my husband had a massive heart attack and it all fell on me .He lived( lacking 09days )the doctor's told us he had 10 years .Aso far as you venting go for it.I have a large live oak in my back yard that boy oh boy if it could
talk.Call His Neurologist Now Take Care God Bless Hugs ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

If I miss any of them or the Apokyn shot I pay for it with the shivering of my lips and mouth and having a lot of motion to deal with and not being able to concentrate or help do anything. So I try to stay on time with all of them, My daughter Andrea fills them for me each Sunday. I take 4 at 6am, 7 1/ 2 at 7 am and an apokyn shot, I take 3 again at 10:am, and an Apokyn shot, I then take 9 1/2 at 11:30 am, and an Apokyn shot at 1. At 1:30 I take 4 more pills, at 4 I take another apokyn shot ( I am allowed 5 per day), and I 4:30 I take 3 additional pills, then at 7 I take an apokyn shot, which is my last one for the day Then at 7:30PM I take 8 pills, and at bedtime I take 5 more pills. I have cut down on Ativan by 6 pills, no longer take a couple more pills 4 times a day. So I now take 46 pills.
It is a battle to get them taken on time but my sanity depends on it.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I canโ€™t believe you have to take 63 drugs! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I donโ€™t think I could do that. I would be up all night going to the bathroom from drinking so much fluid just to take the meds

I am on 63 drugs.and yes I tend to fall asleep anytime I am sitting still. I will not drive if I will be driving more than 1 mile to a destination. If I sit doing anything at all like balancing my checkbook ( which by the way gets harder for me to do all the time), just watching TV, my grandchildren playing or preparing something for me, riding in a car with someone else or anything else that makes me the least bit comfortable, I will fall asleep.
