My other half is 79, has PD plus scoliosis of the spine. I feel it is really important that he manages to get some social interaction with other people apart from me. He has tried a couple of day centres but they tend to be mixed groups (dementia, mental illness etc). He is currently quite switched on mentally and found no stimulation from these groups and hated going. He does attend a local exercise group once a week which he quite enjoys (much to my surprise), but I would love him to go… read more
Hi, I,m in Rock Choir too! They have been so supportive, especially when I had DBS surgery.
Loving the recent songs....x
Thank you both for taking the time to answer my question. Mike Brett is the lovely chap who runs John's exercise class (which he loves). However, because of his scoliosis, John finds the outings too difficult - he is bent over double all the time so soightseeingnetc is too painful for him to endure - we tried one the other day and it just heightened his anxiety so much I had to bring him home. I haven't tried the YMCA but I do think non-specialised exercises may not be appropriate. Which is really sad as John was an expert scuba diver and free diver - now he cannot even float in a pool let alone swim which also frustrates and saddens him (and me). I must sound ungracious to you but I really do appreciate your thoughts xx
Is there a ymca in your area, becsuse they have a variety of services. Excervise is just as important as socialization.
I don't live in UK, but I think these Parkinson's support group's meetings and activities could be helpful. Seems like you are less than 30 minutes to most of the events.
