I was diagnosed a year and a half ago at age 43 with PD .Tryed a lot of different medications that did not work for me . I am on carbidopa levodopa every three hours 4 times a day . I have dyskinesia in my right foot which is the side that is affected by tremors also in hand. Last September meet with the surgeon . She said that I was a good candidate but was too premature to have the surgery . When is the right time to get surgery ? Thank you Tammy
Hi Tammy (and forgive my for being a little negative) but wouldnt rush and get the op Im not convienced about the DBS. I heard some great stories and seen some amazing results but right in front of my eyes I have seen a man return from the op and things went backwards.. He decided to get a second opinion from Australia and they tried the op again and it is not pretty. Hes worse off now than before and I sense the medical experts are distancing themselves.
this is only one case and my opinion I have had PD now for 15 years I was rejected in the 11th hour when I was being assessed for DBS. I dont think I would be interested after what Ive seen. You are still young try exersise and weights and get super fit tidy up your diet remove stress add in massage and relax time and I'm positive things will improve. Happy to chat good luck.

Hello Tammy, like you I was dxed in my forties (later forties) and as you know every body is different. I was taking 25/250 carbidopa levidopa every two hours and 200mg of comtan (a form of carb/levidopa). According to my research you can't have DBS to early but you can miss your window of opportunity. If you wait until your meds aren't working for you, it may be to late and you will not be a good candidate for the DBS. When I went off my meds to have the DBS I was totally blown away by how severe my symptoms were. I highly recommend the surgery. As a matter of fact I wish I had it done years earlier. And that's my 2 cents, for what it is worth. Oh, check out your hospital and your surgeon. I went to a larger hospital with a good reputation, and the surgeon had done several hundred DBS. Good luck,David
