Does Anyone Have A Problem With Their Toenails?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I've been having a problem with my toenails detaching from the nail bed. So far it's happening on 3 toes. The toe starts hurting. It feels like a blister but it's the nail detaching. It hurts for days & then it stops as the skin starts to get hard. So far I haven't lost a nail but you can see the separation. The shape of the nail is changing shape. It's very painful when it starts. I see my internist in 2 weeks & I will tell her what's happening. I'm wondering if it's another problem caused… read more

My internist recommended biotin (I think it is a vitamin K) for my hair, nails and skin. My hair is getting thicker; my nails harder and my skin, has fewer skin tags, brown spots and is much better all around. This is an over the counter medication. I hope it helps you.

My neurologist tells my from time to time that not all the symptoms I experience are due to PD. Some are just ageing. Ask around - this is a common problem for people our age with or without PD. I get a good diamond or sapphire nail file & file the hard parts when they are dry, then put iodine on to kill the fungus (yes, it stings, but it is available in decolorized so it doesn't stain). I then put on Neutrogena hand lotion, or better yet their healthy defense daily moisturizer thickly on the affected spots and just let it soak in. Amazing results, even on separating nails. I am delighted to hear about the biotin. Some good natural food sources are: Sunflower seeds, Rice bran, Green peas - fresh & dried, Lentils - fresh, Peanuts, Walnuts, Barley, Oatmeal, Pecans, Carrots, Cauliflower, Mushrooms, and Avocados

Sometimes, I do have this problem. Lately though, I have been taking a nail, hair and skin supplements. I have noticed a big change in all three. My hair shines better and has more bounce to it, my skin is not so dry anymore and my nails are tougher. That's quite a blessing for a 68 year-old with PD!πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ’₯πŸŒŸπŸ™ŒπŸ˜Ž

I just reread my previous answer and have some clarifications and corrections to itl: "My neurologist tells ME..." and I file the hardened skin as well as the nails
