Most battery replacement is 5 years and they just reopen scar where battery sits disconnect old one an reconnect new one. There also now a 25 year rechargeable battery on the market which recharges every night with a Bluetooth type connection takes 30 minutes but at the moment in the NHS feels the 5 year battery is more reliable that's what I had xxx

Don't worry about process that wouldn't help you will be exhausted so go well prepared if possible and start practicing now by doing memory games or make up a sentence and repeat it the following day. Or start at 100 and keep deducting 7. Good luck I had DBS 1yr ago well worth it.

One thing you will need to decide with DBS is the location of the implant: i.e., STN or Gpi. STN is a smaller physical space than Gpi, which will mean lower voltages and thus longer battery life. In my case (GPi), the battery lasts only about 20-22 months (I have to run it at close to 5 Volts to get good benefit from the system))- I´m on my 3rd one since Dec 2012. They tell you that it lasts 3-5 years, but that must only be for STN implants.

There are other, possibly more important considerations of what location to choose - I´m just raising battery life as a consideration as it will determie the frequency of the replacement surgery.

DBS has made a huge difference in my life, and I hope you find the same.

Dbs is the most effective way to control distonia sine my surgery not one attack and I could guarantee you I would have at least two per day minimum. It's also great with stiff painful joints and tremors. That's the three targeted with me xx
