Question About Flooring And Cleanup
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Wondering what type of flooring everyone considers workable for PD patients. My husband has PD and I am his caregiver. Since incontinence is a huge issue with PD (often ignored by the person that has this problem) I also need to know with type of, maybe, disposable floor mops are favorites with other caregivers. Getting tired here as his PD is progressing at a faster rate right now. Thanks!!!!

Denise are you getting a break once in awhile? I hope so. It is so hard as our loved one progresses. They have no concept of the work involved. Do you have a caregivers meeting near you? My hugs go out to you. Try to take good care of yourself too. I now, easier said than done! hugs, Karen

Denise I had a mop that had disposable pads by swiffer. It had a sprayer on the handle. I used paper towel into a bucket, then touched up with the mop and threw away the mess. Much easier than washing.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member Good morning Denise, I'm so glad to hear from you! Don't worry about how often your on this site! I just want to have a word of encouragement waiting for you ,If I can! You are so dear, and love your husband so much. What a blessing you are! Do you have friends, maybe from church, that could check in on Den when you have your surgery? What about setting up for the week, just in case? It would give you a break if maybe they brought a meal each day, and sat for a 30 min chat with Den? Help with the dishes and make sure he has plenty to drink. Of coarse I don't know if your insurance would cover an inhome care visit to help him with getting ready for the day? You might check. Also you could consider seeing if he could stay at his mothers facility for a week? Sometimes they have guest rooms, with the option of light care. Your insurance might pay for a short rehab visit. He could spend time with his mother, get a little stronger, you wouldn't have to worry about him. I checked myself into a local rehab, when I was almost bedridden before my DBS surgeries. This relieved the stress in Dec. that year. It was a break for everyone who was helping us and my husband, though he was very unhappy about it. He was over tired and burnt out!
I had an ablation done for A Fib and I was sore for about 5 days. You may want help a little anyway, even if your home. Well that's my 2 cents worth! lol! Please let me know how you are doing. hugs, Karen

I got a Velcro pad that attaches to a long stick mop at Lowe’s. I got spray on cleaner. I just spray it on and use my Velcro mop. When it’s dirty, I pull off the pad and wash it and dry it. A disposable one would be easier.-Sherwon
