How Do Others Deal With Catastrophising?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband, who has PD, worries everything to death. So often, he assumes the worst case scenario, which seldom comes about, but meanwhile there has been a great deal of unnecessary stress and anxiety. He imagines slights where there has been none, which causes a lot of trouble between us, and I find it increasingly difficult to deal with. Has anyone else had similar experiences, and how do you cope? Is some sort of medical intervention needed?

My husband does this also. He suffers from paranoia which was driving a wedge between us for quite awhile. I talked him into seeing a psychologist and he was put on Seroquel. It has helped quite a bit. Maybe talk to his neurologist and see if you can be referred to a psychologist athat has knowledge of Parkinson's. Good luck.

The Parkinson meds block the body from making serotonin. You should see your GP and ask him to put you on serotonin. You will need to take this every day of your life unfortunately . Good luck and God Bless.

I have issues similar to your husband. If he’s not already seeing a therapist he should consider seeing one that can work with him on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). There are some great techniques to help him evaluate situations and his thinking with a therapist. I found this great resource on the internet that will show what CBT is all about

Anxiety is really common with PD. There are treatments - talk with his doctor.
