My husband drip feeds chocolates, then isn't very hungry for meals. I had always heard sugar was bad for your brain so this worries me. He is not overweight. Is this because the PD has changed his sense of taste and he only really enjoys sweet food?
I am a chocolate lover as well. My wife asked my neurologist about it on our last visit, and she said that craving sweets is quite common. I have read a number of publications cautioning about the consumption of sugar and its effect on PD, so I try to consume as little as possible. It is difficult to refrain from eating it entirely though because it tastes so good and not much else does.
I can eat dark chocolate, so that's good. Milk in any form unless goat cheese doesn't agree with me, even prior to the P.D.
Don’t really know about change in the sense of taste but too much sugar is definitely bad! It may not be to his taste but 70-90% chocolate is supposed to be good for people with PD - at least it allows me to have a treat? It’s something to do with helping dopamine release - or something like that 🙄? I should check if needed about why it is good for we PDERS as I’m not always that reliable with my information 🤡 ( not sure if that is despite being a teacher or because of being a teacher 👨🏻🏫 )
I tend to stay away from eating anything refined or white> sugar, wht. potatoes, dairy (unless its organic from grass fed animals). I have quite a sweet tooth as well, so I will eat either figs, dates and dried and fresh fruit and my chocolate I like it DARK! It has way less crap and sugar in it! I eat a Paleo diet for about a year now, and find eliminating dairy, legumes and grain from my diet has helped me a lot. What I miss the most is Ice Cream. Sometimes I will break down and have some or get coconut ice cream!! We need to allow ourselves some vices and pleasures!!
That sounds very mild addiction! My husband has a tin of milk chocolate squares he dips into all the time. He doesn't like dark chocolate, although I far prefer it. Enjoy your evening treat!
