I was on Mirapex and had every side effect imaginable, from the compulsive gambling and shopping to weight gain. I gained 78 lb in less than 4 months and spent almost $500,000. This was between doctor visits, so I went to see my doctor he didn't even recognize me. My husband told him about what happened and he said we've got to do the brain surgery, the DBS, ASAP. Within a month all of my symptoms were gone and the weight started coming off. I had had an allergic reaction to the mirapex, which did help my Parkinson's symptoms but unfortunately wreaked havoc in the rest of my life. I was very lucky to have a very supportive family and group of friends. I'm now on STALEVO every 3 hours with Xanax as as-needed.

I take a stalevo every 3 hours with .25 xanax if needed. I use the xanax if i am late taking my stalevo necause i will definiely start tremors. I take a .5 xanax to sleep every night unless i am tired, usually i did not need the xanax with my bedtime stalevo. I do have bi-latetal dbs. I started with a very slight tremor in my right hand. Was diagnosed at age 38. The pd hopped to my left side and i had a second dbs immediately. My right side is not even close as bad bad my left side. I have had a few battery changes, but my left side always uses more power because it is set higher than the right side.
