My Husband Was Diagnosed In 2010. He Has Not Been Told By Any Dr's To Not Drive Anymore. His Balance And Halting Gait Is Worsening.

The main thing that I notice is his depth perception is worsening. He drives a truck and has problems getting into parking spaces well. He has gotten tired while driving but he has noticed that and pulls over and lets me drive. I am concerned but know it would devastate him if I brought up the issue of him no longer driving. And I feel like I would be betraying him if I would bring it up to the doctor. Basically my heart is broken for him.

yes i was having some depth perception issues as well, will have to see if that is any better with this new lens. and the afternoon sleepiness had gotten super bad with my driving - i would have to literally fight to stay awake at the wheel, even on short trips like 8 miles away. i have fallen asleep sitting at traffic lights.... had a few close calls of drifting across the lines... but - my family doctor prescribed me Wellbutrin for my severe depression over the loss of my sweetheart and since ive been taking that, the afternoon drowsiness is greatly reduced.

I agree with the comments above. Maybe some in town driving and trips would satisfy him. I know that I will be devastated if told I can't drive anymore. When you have rely to on some one else would be bad.

My husband has hardly ever let me drive he always drove us everywhere for 43 years and now he doesn't hardly drive at all. Fatigue and "Brain Fog" are the symptoms he complains about the most. He has been on Sinemet for about 5 mos since he was diagnosed with PD.
He has had tremors, shuffling gait, extreme fatigue and his left arm and hand had quit working in the past 2-3 years.

As PD suffers and someone who has just recently been told not to drive, I would be broken if I hurt someone or worse because of pride or family to worried to bring it up.
I’ve been driving trucks for 40 years, they were my passion and though I went down to a little 6 tonner it became obvious I was struggling with Glaucoma, now that my ophthalmologist has said no driving due to vision my Doctor on Friday concurred and said my balance and cognitive issues are enough to not drive anymore.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I’m sure that common sense is not a casualty of your husband PD, I’m sure he will trust you in your assessment, for your safety and those on the road.
Give him a big hug from us all, and tell him there is life after driving. 👍👋🤝❤️❤️

We are at the same place, My husband was diagnosed with PD 9 years ago. My mother is a retired judge and explained to me the ramifications of not only the safety issues for Stuart and others, but what could happen to us legally, if he was in an accident. I finally asked his doctor if Stuart could be assessed to see if he should still drive. After a 2 1/2 hour test at the rehab center at the hospital, he passed. I am still watching closely.
