My mom is in advanced stages with dementia on hospice in a nursing home. She's been having a terrible time with leaning to one side and slouching down in her Broda Chair with her right elbow sliding down which doesn't help the leaning. She can even lean despite the supports on the Broda chair being adjusted up or down. Pillows don't seem to work. She's also leaning forward more lately which is dangerous if she is upright in her chair eating. I've heard of something called a Calibrace. Has… read more

My mom had the same problem when she reached advanced PD. Hospice actually got her a smaller Broda wheelchair than the one she had before and that helped a lot - she lost so much weight that the old wheelchair didn't fit her any more. Worth suggesting.
I’m guessing maybe a urinary tract infection.
My husbands speech is very low also his appetite is poor, because he has just had two water infections, which caused more confusion. He started on treatment for the dementia. He was improved at first then the water infection messed him up. The nurse who monitors the dementia told me that the confusing could take months to go, because of it.
I’m do very sorry. My mom probably couldn’t have a brace on either. It’s such an awful disease. My mom is declining not really speaking anymore and I think it’s the PD has affected her throat muscles along with the dementia causing even more decline that is causing her not to be able to speak much any longer. It’s so sad. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband!
