Safinamide , generic for Xadago (which sells for $950 /month, w/o insurance) i only found the Xadago. The Inbrijo is a nose spray, which I didn't find anywhere! My doctor prescribed them for me! They could be tthe answer to the misable off periods! If you don't have off periods now, you probably will later! To make it later than sooner, take as little levadopa as possible, to avoid the resistance to the levadopa. Once your totally resistant to levadopa, you are in a permanant off… read more
Thanks for the info on swallowing. I found it very useful and interesting. Thanks again for sharing.
Swallowing is a problem with many P.D. victims! It causes deaths. Here is a few suggestions to make it safer:
1- Always make sure you swallowed and cleared your throat of your bite before you take the next bite
2- Make time for long meals, never eat in a hurry or on the run
3- Always eat soft chewable food, the harder foods can be blended into a smoother or soup (even chicken, fish ) it can taste pretty good!! Or use a $10 dicer to make the chunks into sugar sized! You eat a big bowl of mixed vegatables every night for dinner. You can have nuts, seeds, almost anything! It all grinds down to easy swallowing nutrition!
4- Either cut up or mash bigger pills into a powder to make them easy to swallow. Keep some strong juice on hand to wash down the awful taste.
5- If you turn your head to the left , or point your left ear toward the ground, the food or liquids go down easier. It must be something about the anatomy of the throat! My doctor later gave me this suggestion without me asking about it! It comes in handy when you need to drink water and can take meds. You can try various positions, nothing too radical. Maybe a left hander should go to the right! Lol who knows!!
6- Jerking your head back, which pushes the food or med to the back of the mouth works good too
7- Use your tongue, jaw, throat muscles on each bite. It takes concentration!
8- If it won’t get past your throat, spit it out. Not a fun thing to do, but choking is no fun either!
9- Drink water or juice with your food. It breaks down the food even more. They say to drink a glass of water with each pill you take.
10- There is a lot of advice & exercises on the internet
Bon Appetite
I experience difficulty at times. Food will sit in the back of my throat while I wait for muscles to work and allow me to swallow hard enough to get it down. Sometimes this even happens with saliva. I have a terrible time at dentist when they squirt water in your mouth. My mouth does not always respond appropriately so I have to work to be able to spit it out. I always tell a new dentist or specialist that I have Parkinson's and notify of mouth movements so they will be patient as possible and try to understand. Works well most times.
U r amazing 😍
