I have a question about staring for long periods of time in Parkinson’s patients. My father (age 78) has had Parkinson’s for the past 11years. He now lives with me and I’m his caregiver. I’ve noticed that at dinner time, he kind of “zones out” and stares out the window for a very long time. It takes him upwards of 2 hours to finish his dinner! Blinking is decreased in Parkinson’s
It has happened to my partner with PD often. Have you looked at his face? Does he look like your dad when he's fully present? My guy looks different, it's his face, but his spirit and twinkly eyes are replaced with flat , dull expressionless eyes. I can tell that he's not present in the moment. Please inform his doctor,
Big hugs
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, it could very well be sundowning. Does he do it any other time of the day?
I have sundowners; I sometimes go off on my own although since I live alone I can't tell for how long, except that suddenly it's dark out, and time for bed and I'm unaware of where the time went. Sometimes I've been crying but often I don't know why; I just know I'm not depressed or even sad. You could mention it to his doctor. Also turning lights on might help; I've been doing it and I don't cry nearly as much. I don't know how much that helps....
Hugs,
Teresa
