Does Melatonin Work For Sleep?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

This is just something that happened to me which I would like to share. I sleep terrible at night usually going to bed at 12 and waking at 3:30-4:00 a.m. I tried the melatonin gummies which someone recommended. I tried them but they did not seem to work at all for me. But since I loved the taste I took them for three months and after about three months they finally worked. I could not believe it. Now I am going to bed at 11:00 and waking at 7:30 each morning. If I need to use the restroom… read more

I take a 5 mg melatonin every night and within 5 minutes I am asleep for the rest of the night.

Melatonin works for some people and for some it don’t but it is worth a try because it is safer than some prescription or over the counter sleep aids. Melatonin is called the dark hormone because it is made by your body, so that is why no prescription is needed to obtain it. For some people the reason it might not work is because of the way they take it. When taking melatonin you need to be ready to actually go to bed which means cutting off TV and putting down the gadgets that produce light. Like I said it is the dark hormone so that means take it and get in the dark. Also if you have problems sleeping try cutting off all light producing electronics we have what we call Circadian rhythms this rhythm is what lets our bodies know when it is time to sleep, when you have TVs on or cell phones or tablets on then the light from those hit our eyes and makes the body think it is daytime and time to be awake. In my case when I drive home in the mornings I wear dark sunglasses so that my body knows that it is almost bedtime. I know this was long sorry about that, but when you do sleep for a living then you try to help whenever possible.

Melatonin works for me. I was doing the same as you...staying up until I was exhausted, but awake by 3:00 am. Melatonin helps me sleep all night, without the bad dreams other night aids cause.
