This Heat Is Killing Me!
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I can't take the heat any longer. Have any of you experienced heavy sweating, vertigo and nausea when outside in the high temperatures we are having? My clothes are soaking wet after just 15 minutes outside in even 85+ heat. Could it be my Parkinson medicine or just PD? this is the first summer that I have experienced this. I was diagnosed 3 years ago but probably had PD for 5+ years.

Hi @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, got the answer for you today. Saw the Movement Disorder Specialist and he had a fit that I stayed out in the high heat to see my grandchildren’s swim meet. He said I could have passed out. He told me it is not the medication. He said in PD patients that extreme heat makes the autonomic nervous system go haywire and then you can pass out. That is why you were feeling so awful. We all need to be more cautious. Hope this was helpful. Rambo

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, not sure what meds you take but I am doing the same thing due to taking Azilect and the heat increases my metabolism rapidly anyway so I carry a huge water bottle and drink constantly. I also carry a washcloth everywhere I go-real fashionable. When outside for a longtime like a my grandbabies swim meet I use one of those cooling towels around my neck like the athletes use. I was always a sweaty person but this is horrible! No need to put makeup on, I just wipe it off the minute I go outside. Guess you don’t need my advice for that. LOL. Rambo
