How do you stay positive in the context of Parkinson’s? What do you do and say to yourself and whatever else to stay positive?A few quick thoughts from me
- I practice mindfulness during the day so that I’m focused on the present, the very immediate present. I practice about 1/2 hour in the morning and maybe once in the afternoon. It also reduces my tremor, but mindfulness is about accepting, not trying to change anything
- Intentionally thinking of gratitude in my life is important.… read more

I find humor is very good. When I am asked how I am doing I say "I got me a new job". A job? Where? I thought you are retired, says the inquirer. You see, my right leg twitches and hurts when I stand to prepare meals. I have my hubby help with meal preparation as well as plating the meal. We both sit down to eat. Now comes the dish washing and kitchen clean up. But not me, I have to sit down in my recliner to rest my legs. So, I sit and watch some tv. When the commercials comes on the tv, I get up and wash dishes.
My job now becomes The Commercial Dishwasher.

Helping others, learning new things, spiritual connection all give inner peace. Distraction with hobbies. Breathing techniques to stop anxiety and curb depression.

I’m not traditionally religious. But I do have a positive commitment to make the world better and to help others. But for other activities that help me stay positive I was thinking exercise. I used to watch sports on TV a lot more but I’m not sure I care as much. So I avoid thinking about how are used to enjoy it and just enjoy it as I would now. That’s back to being in the present and reducing anxiety and depression by being in the moment and practicing quiet times. When I’m at my best I don’t say why me or think about the future or compare myself to others but it takes an effort! I also try not to catastrophize my symptoms by saying it’s only a tremor and staying calm when I’m “off.” Don’t think that his heart is social engagements. If it to have dinner with people I mean I’ll be able to eat at the same time I may be off and not as easily able to socialize. Does anyone have any ideas about that or experiences that they share about that?Music is also very important . Singing makes you forget everything. Except sometimes when I’m moved emotionally by music, my right side tremor starts up. Darn!
