A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is there anyone who has 4 DBS leads instead of the normal two? My husband has two leads in the STN part of the brain and 2 leads in the VIM part of the brain. HIs speech has not been good since the day he had the VIM leads put in...even before they were even turned on. We are wondering if we should have had the procedure, as programming these seems to be so much more challenging although his tremors are controlled. I am curious how others with this situation are getting along.

I completed my dbs procedures in December 2019 and programming started Jan 9, 2020. I have not seen any progress so far, as a matter of fact, I felt better before the dbs. They tell me it takes time to find the right settings as there are a million of them. At that rate, could take me years! It seems like each time I go to have the settings changed, I have to wait a month or so until my next appointment. I can usually tell the setting does not work pretty soon after programming but have to wait and waste time on a "wrong" setting. It is very frustrating and time consuming. Nothing wrong with my speech but all my tremors and other symptoms are still with me. Ugh! Bean
