If you are a veteran you might be eligible for a VA pension which will almost double the amount of your Social Security check.I have been surprised by this pension in that it removed my share of cost for the drugs.

It took me 2xs to apply for disability, then it was approved. The first time u apply, everyone pretty much get denied. I talked to a disability lawyer, and said that I will have a hard time getting "approved," since I was 48 y/o. But I filled out the paperwork myself and was approved.

I would go to an attorney and see what they can tell you what your options are.

I was approved for state disability the first time and then they encouraged me to apply for federal disability because they didn't want to foot the whole bill and my success came about for several reasons... I was teaching at the time and I couldn't stay awake during the day, work with 35 5th graders in a classroom, tripping and falling was and falling was an issue. I was having difficulty processing my thoughts and when I got nervous i started to shake. It was actually the head of human resources at my school that suggested I apply for disabilty and my boss supported me as well and then my neurologists filled out the form saying Parkinsons does not have remission and it is a slow degenerative disease and then psychiatric added his support and included stress as a major exasperation. When they had me see their own doctor and psychiatrist I decided they needed to see baseline me ... Because there are times when i forget top bring extra doses miss a dose and that's the me that struggles from day to day so I went off my medicine for six hours and the doctor got to watch me struggle for 5 minutes trying to tie my Shoe and the psychiastrist seemed interested in knowing that i had a plan, a Support system and ideas how to keep myself busy and active. Then I had to go 6 months for state (not working, couldn't touch my pension) and receive around 2800 a month the second week of the month. So, it's not all glory. When I turn 60 in 7 years state disability will disappear and I will have access to my pension which continues to grow. It will be around 100,000 and SS disability I should receive till I die...because I am married to a veteran I have access to any VA care facility.
