Are There Any Meds That Help With Freezing Before He Can Walk & Balance Issue

My husband has had PD for 20 years & has taken the same meds the whole time. He experienced very few issues until about 2 years ago. Now he freezes & has great difficulty getting started walking, has balance issues &is much weaker than he has ever been. He still does a lot but these issues are beginning to limit his activities. Diagnosed about a year ago, I've been taking carbidopa/levodopa (Sinemet) from the very start. I have not had any side effects. I understand that levodopa by itself can cause nausea, but the carbidopa is meant counteract that. It can take some time to get the dosage and timing worked out, and you have to gradually work up to the full dosage; during that time there can be periods where the beneficial effects wear off. This up and down can be unpleasant, but it goes away as you get up to the full recommended dose, this takes 2-3 weeks.

Pamela, he has been taking pramepexole (so?) & selegiline. It has kept him almost symptom free until recently. He still doesn’t have much tremor but the freezing & balance issues are fairly new & has really affected his daily life. Everyone is different so I guess he has just been fortunate up to this point. Wish they could find something for his new issues. This is the first time in our 55 year relationship that I have ever seen him down & he feels he will die soon. I hate what this disease is doing to him. But on a positive note we have had the most incredible experiences to look back on because we decided to work to live not to live to work.

Tony. I know it takes time for levodopa to regulate but I have read that the on & off periods can cause even more issues so don’t want hubby to suffer more than he is now. I hope it continues to work for you. Everyone suffers differently from this horrible disease.
