Mask Suggestions For Facial Dyskinesia
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband's face mask slips down within seconds due to dyskinesia in his jaw/face. He lacks the dexterity to pull it back into place so I tend to hold it in place until we're out of public. I'm wondering if anyone else is having similar issues or has found a solution that works well for them.

I tie a tiny knot in ear elastics to make it fit better

Hi Alesha, I’m assuming he’s using a mask that hooks over his ears, yes? You might try a mask with elastic that goes over the head. I made my husband several masks like what I described. The link below is a picture of that type of mask.

Hi @ Diane Drew. Can your husband tolerate a face shield ?
There are so many kinds of masks out there. I had to go to using kids masks as my face is small and the adult masks would tend to ride up and interfere with vision. There are also a couple of hacks online to make the masks more stable and comfortable. I hope you can find something that works for him .

Different masks fit differently. You may want to look for a larger mask that you can adjust when he puts it on so it fits more closely to his face. My husband had one that kept sliding down. He got rid of it and switched to one that stays put.

What great suggestions, thank you! I haven't tried a face shield yet, may consider it if I don't have luck with one with elastic behind the head. And tying the elastics should be a good workaround until we find the perfect fit.
