Do We Benefit From Being Protected From Risks? What Do You Think?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Protecting the elderly from risks is like those who put us Parkies in wheelchairs so we won't fall or who won't let us use scissors ever again because I cut myself once. Sometimes there are other solutions, & the Joy gained is worth the risk. I know that my life is enriched by relearning to use scissors & by climbing up a steep mountainside in the dark to find the first buck I ever tagged, a 5-point. Lying on the couch or sitting in the recliner all day is not the best way to live out one's… read more

Thanks Peggy. Normally i do housework and other stuff when my meds still working in my system I accomplished a lot of work from it. Then I would relax and chill when tremors kicks in. It's just a matter on how I manage my day to day activities with timing by taking my meds. So far so good it works for me.
Take care.

Msbernsify,
Good for you! I try hard to exist without help, but my fine motor
skills are sometimes a challenge! Like putting in earring backs or trying to get off caps. I use tools that are specially designed but sometimes don't succeed. Things I used to take for granted!
Stay strong!
Peggy

Yes! I walked into book club just fine, no cane, and decided to tell the 8 members I have pd in case they see me out walking with a cane. I told them I only need it to lean on to rest along the way and that I haven’t fallen since December in the snow. On the way out, 2 people wanted to assist me going down 4 stairs that had a rail. Those lady’s were trying to be helpful, they are lovely, and I appreciate that and let them know. On the inside, I was wishing they didn’t do it. I prize my independence.

Tips for Success in Flourishing:
1 - Smile. Don't let PD make your face stuck in turtle face or fish face!
2 - Nourish your body. Don't skip meals & make sure that everything that passes your lips is healthy, including good mineral water. When cooking becomes difficult, Meals on Wheels & grocery delivery are Great! There are some healthy frozen dinners out there.
3 - Exercise. Does not have to be extreme, but give yojur body some strength by exercising 5x a week or more - OK to do at home without fancy equipment.
4 - Keep your brain sharp. Puzzles, cards, &70th games are great for this, so is ginkgo biloba herbal supplement, & writing to us on this website.
5 - Sing. It keeps the voice from becoming too soft to communicate.
6 - Do fun things often. Get off that recliner & enjoy being alive!

Congratulations @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - on your successful drive home at 3am on the dark roads. You are Amazing!

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - I get rid of the stuck PD face by looking in my mirror every morning, giving my turtle face a saucy smile & saying "You can't get me today!"
