I am 60 years old and have had PD for 15 years. My Neuro is suggesting I have DBS. Am I too young? Should I wait a few more years?
I do take quite alot of meds, carbo/levo (Rytary 2 pills every 3 hours, Amantadine and depression meds.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Donna
I was on my way to DBS at 49 because my doctor thought it would increase the quality of life for a long, long time.
I wound up not having Parkinson's all, but the decision was from how bad my symptoms were, how my quality of life was and if the meds helped. Now we know why they didn't - and I'm not suggesting that you don't have PD at all - mine is just a really rare case, but I was all for DBS at the time.
I actually talked to a few people that had it, and some were off all meds for years. Why would you wait for that?
Just my opinion, but I did a lot of research at the time, so I have a lot of information on DBS. If you'd like me to share some with you, just let me know.

Yes, have it done if you can. I was 65 when I had DBS done, my dr. wanted me to go years ago but I kept putting it off. Although I still take carbi-Levo pills every two hours. Bean
I am 65 yrs with Parkinsons diagnosed 8 yrs ago. I have just had DBS 10 days ago. I have not been fully switched on but can already feel a difference in my body and soul. Have it done as soon as you are eligible is my advice.
I recommend it also. I was 65 years when I had it put in. Bean
I got the Dbs at about 70 I do not have any idea at what age you should be. All I know it was a lifesaver for me no more tremors. I highly recommend it
I’ve had for about 9 years
Plus a lot less medicine
