Skin Splitting Open On Shins -- Any Insight On Home Treatment?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

This happens periodically and I think dry skin contributes. I don't know yet if it's a skin thing or a vein thing. The dermatologist said get a veinous ultrasound, but so many other physical problems are happening, we haven't had time. So far, my husband heals without clinical wound care, but it is looking chronic, though periodic and I want to get ahead of it this time.....thanks.

I think it is a good idea to follow up on your doctor’s recommendation. In the meantime I would slather the area in moisturizing cream and do it multiple times a day. You want to prevent the skin from drying out.
Good luck.

A veinous ultrasound is a non-invasive test that takes very little time. It would be in your best interest to have the test and get a proper diagnosis. Your good health is invaluable.

Wishing you the best.

We have amazing results from CeraVe healing ointment for a multitude of skin issues. It was used and recommended by our dermatologist. It comes in a blue container.

I've had this with intense edema for 3years. My legs are like cement and the skin breaks from the tension. I saw a vascular specialist and cardiologist, both agreed it's not lymphedema, but that I'd benefit from lymphatic massage therapy. They couldn't have been more right! It's amazing the difference! Best wishes 🥰

When my hubby was falling more than he is now, he would bruise his shins and it took a very long time for them to heal. Sometimes we would think it was healed and then it would split open again. I put bacitracin and a bandage on it for a while but then would let it air heal. Now that he is wearing compression socks, his shins are a bit discolored but haven't seen any bruises in quite a while. Now I am told that bacitracin doesn't really do anything but it makes him feel better so we use it when necessary. I hope you find a solution for your shins and have many goods days ahead!
