It comes and goes and with no regularity. The mouth may start with a metallic taste and then begin burning and causing phlegm to,the extent I feel I cannot breath. I have looked into, reflux and cut out dairy, spicy food, carbonated drinks etc but still happens. Do you think it’s a side effect of medication Sinemet and would a drip into my intestines called Duopa help to end this?
Honestly I am amazed as everyone of us have different symptoms and problems. Seems like every case of Parkinson’s is different and that is what is most perplexing. To me, it’s a mental battle not physical. Hang in there brother
I also have GERD and take meds for it. I take 40mg omeprazole and sleep on a wedge. I avoid spicy foods AND tomato sauce and citrus juice . Hope that helps. Sometimes (if I don't get my meds on time - first thing 1 hr after CL and 1/2hr before eating-) even water causes gastric pain and reflux. 🙃
That is true. It’s part of the reason it is so complex a condition to treat. Do you think they will find a way to slow or stop the progression. I do hope so soon. It is a confusing illness to treat especially after the first decade.
I know burning mouth is a side effect of Sinemet. Anxiety and phlegm are both caused by Parkinson’s, but there’s medication for both. Anxiety responds well to medication, unfortunately phlegm does not.
Phlegm could be a gastro issue. I have GERD and typically after I awake I need ' spit' a lot and rinse out my mouth. You may have a gastro intestinal issue which is somewhat common. While you sleep your stomach acid goes up to your throat, hence possible 'phlegm' collection.
Try:
(1) Raising the head of your bed about 4-6 inches when sleeping.
(2) Do NOT eat after 8PM or drink any liquids.
(3) If you have an acidic issue then see a Gastroenterologist.
(I take a prescription antacid myself)
