Does Anyone Take Mirapex (pramipexole) In Addition To Carbidopa/levodopa?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I told my doctor I often Get symptoms of restless leg syndrome during the night. He says this will help but the med has many side effects such as sleepiness, hallucinations, dyskinesia and I don't want to take it.

I have taken Mirapex morning and night for rls for many years. No side effects and it really helps. I've not noticed side effects before carba/Leva or now with it.

I don’t have Parkinson’s (my husband does) but I’ve been taking Mirapex for many years for RLS. I wouldn’t sleep without it. Hope it helps you!

I took Mirapex for quite some time. It put 60 lbs on me. I fell asleep eating & my husband had to continually wake me to chew my food every few minutes. I fell asleep drinking a cup of coffee and woke up when it started coming out of my nose & the cup lying in my lap. I fell asleep when we were visiting friends and sitting and talking. That whole time I took it is like a blur to me now. My husband will tell me we watched this movie and I say no I haven’t and he said we did when you were on Mirapex so I probably slept off and on and don’t even remember it. Not everyone has a problem as bad as I did. I wouldn’t take it again. It has taken me nearly a year to lose those 60 lbs. My new Neurologist took me off of it and put me on the Extended Release form of Carb/Levidopa called Rytary Ex. Release. I wasn’t able to take the regular full release all at once dose, but Rytary Extended Release works really well for me. One capsule 3 times a day wasn’t enough and wore off in 4 hrs on me, so he doubled it to 2 capsules 3 times a day. I don’t understand why it caused me to gain 60 lbs and all of the rest and some have no problems with it. If it were me I would ask if there is another drug for restless legs. Do you have bad dreams and kick and hit that you know of. Your husband would know but you might not unless you hurt yourself. Just wondering. You sound like you are afraid to take it, I would say listen to your gut, but you were wise to ask those of us here if we have had problems with it. I pray that the Lord will guide you in your decision to do what is for your best.
Blessings,
