I Follow The Stories Of A Lot Of Parkinson Patients, Cannot Comment Personally Because It Is My Husband And Not Me That Suffers From It.
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband's neurologist advised a DBS-operation, which really gave him a new "lease on life" for about 9 years. We are very grateful for that. Who has had the chance for a DBS-op? I believe now-a-day's it can be done under general anaesthetics, his was still done while awake. I always admired him for going through with the op. The pros really outnumbered the cons. Any comment on this?

I had my 1st one in july of 2019 and was sedated through the whole procedure. The DBS helped tremendously with my tremors on my right side as well as some movement issues enough that I had my left side done in march of 2022 and was sedated this time as well. Getting the DBS operation on my left side has helped some but not nearly as much as my right. My neurologist had also told me that depending on where they place the lead hinders on how fast you will show progress and if you will be sedated or not. Progress can come very slowly so don't let it discourage you like it has me but am seeing improvement.
