How do you orchestrate taking meds and eating regular meals with family that has protein in it? Just don’t seem to be able to accomplish.

I understand about protein slowing absorption of the meds. Then I read something about being careful not to take in too much carbohydrates. So, what do you eat? I get overwhelmed by this subject as it is trying to deal with weight gain. Just have no real victory in this whole area. I usually just eat what’s in front of me, and take the meds and deal with the consequences. Sorry… read more

Getting diagnosed.

Getting diagnosed.

Hello,
My question is how long did it take you to be diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease? I'm a 30 year old woman and I have seen several Neurologists that have always danced around the diagnosis of PD because of my age. Until recently when I went to the ER for a mini stroke. The Neurologist I saw in the ER knew exactly what I had after her assessment. She left to call my current Neurologist and I never got to ask more questions. I apologize for the long story, it's even longer than that. I just… read more

Loss of balance

Loss of balance

So my father has parkinsons and we have noticed he loses balance a lot. Falls down slowly.
We don't really know what to do and how to help him further with this. He does have a cane and a walker and I bought him an apple watch so it can alert us if he falls. I just think things like putting on his shoes are going to be really difficult given its hard for him to get up. Just really difficult to see, we try to help as much as we can. I don't live at home however he is with my mom who helps as much… read more

Does sleepiness mean you shouldn't drive?

My husband falls asleep at the drop of a hat. He thinks he should be able to drive. I feel this would be very dangerous. Your thoughts please!

It is an individual thing... each Parkinsons patient needs to make an honest assessment about his/her ability to drive and act accordingly.

What symptoms does Carbidopa-Levodopa treat?

What symptoms does Carbidopa-Levodopa treat?

My husband has stooped posture, muscle rigidity, oily face, weakness on right side, back pain and walking difficulty. He has bladder urges especially at night and constipation, but he doesn't have a tremor. He didn't start taking this medicine last year because I heard it can cause you to start having tremors. Does anyone else take this medicine even though they didn't have tremors???

Does Parkinsons or parkinsonism affect bowels?

Does Parkinsons or parkinsonism affect bowels?

I'm on no medication, but my bowels have been exploding for two days, although I'm eating very little, mostly toast and tea. Is this a case for a gastroenterologist or is it Parkinsons?

The most common complaint is constipation. I did have scary diarrhea when I took Entacapone. I had to stop talking it.
