How Do You Define A Parkinson’s Diagnosis? By A “stage” Or “level”?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I thought there were 5 stages. However I’ve seen newer members describe their PD diagnosis as mild, medium or severe.

Hi GinnyOwen,
Thank you for your response. It makes sense. Shortly after my official diagnosis (8/22/2023), I thought I saw “Stage 3” on one of my papers. I was fortunate enough to participate in the Early Intervention Program (12/14/2023 - 3/11/2024). They provided OT, PT & ST. I recently joined the Y and will join their Delay The Disease program next month. My Parkinson’s doctor (i.e. movement disorder specialist) orchestrated my therapies. The Carbidopa Levodopa is keeping my right hand tremors at bay. I’m feeling stronger & my balance is improving. I’m very fortunate and I now have strategies to deal with issues that might arise. I try to stay abreast with my reading but every now & then, I get scared.

Parkinson's disease symptoms can be different for everyone. Early symptoms may be mild and go unnoticed. Symptoms often begin on one side of the body and usually remain worse on that side, even after symptoms begin to affect the limbs on both sides. i hate that stage thing

Many doctors don't tell you what stage you are in, they just deal with the symptoms as they arise. PD is so changeable: people can need a lot of help on some days, and minimal help on others. A good exercise program or change of medication can completely alter things. Defining a stage may cause a person to feel more discouraged than if they just deal with things as they happen.
