Have Any Of You Dealt With Cervical Stenosis Along With PD?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'd like to hear your experiences with this. I am finding a lot of overlap between stenosis and PD which makes it very confusing! I am having real problems with leg pain, heaviness, and balance (doing PT for that). It's hard to know where PD ends and stenosis begins. I may need to consider surgery for the stenosis. For now, I hope cortisone will help manage the pain.

Cortisone does not work for me but I’m about to have spinal ablation to hopefully get some relief and regain possible mobility.🤞

I have tons of cervical and lumbar stenosis and know large numbers PWP (people with Parkinson’s ) who have the same problem. Rigidity and dyskinesia I believe will take what would be normal mild degeneration and make them major pain issues for us.
The thing I can’t stand the most is some of these highly educated movement disorder specialists just write all the painful issues of PD off as “ other problems”
But I have had doctors who do understand and will if nothing else get you to the right help you need. I have a doctor like that now and the difference is incredible night and day!

Cortisone is a wonderful thing. It isn’t a cure, but with PD, there probably isn’t a cure.

I don’t think PD causes spinal Stenosis, but will certainly raise the pain level of any issue you may have.

Most of us do what we need to to lessen the pain.

Cortisone is a wonder drug. BUT it can harm you also. Live and learn.

Susan 369 I ageee 100% cortisone shots do help but I have diabetes and it’s really dangerous if your getting lots of injections. If it gets bad enough though I will have them they do help. I had surgery on my back last year which helped some but I am not considering it any further Because of other health issues including lower immune response due to Parkinson's and Diabetes. Lots of stretching, meditation, Tai chi, yoga have great results as well. It’s therapy though no fix all and done!!!
Good luck
Blessings
