Ask for help from your teachers' union....NEA OR AFT.
Someone should be available as your advocate to help you .
First check to see if your district offers long term disability to its employees. Mine does and that is what I am on until I reach age 65. Then I will retire. If it does not, you may be able to apply for Social Security Disability. If you still need to retire set up an appointment with your teacher retirement association and they will help you with it. Also the HR dept. in your district will know about long term disability and the paperwork you have to do. My district also allows employees on disability to continue medical coverage for one year with them paying the emloyer share, so check on that too
call now on the social security disability as they will pay more than Medicare. I hired a law firm to do mine. you won't qualify for the first 5 months of retirement and then it'll still take at least a total of 7-8 months to go though. I hope that helps
Thank you
