Sleeplessness
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does any one else have trouble sleeping? I am finding I am tired when I go to bed and sometimes go straight to sleep other times I can lay there till 3-4 in the morning and then just doze for a while and be up by 7 - 8 I have a sleeping tablet but this doesn't always work and I don't want to have them increased. Thank goodness for cross word and jigsaws on the Ipad. Pam

Hello Gary Sharpe, thank you for your advice this lying awake all night has whiskers on it and i am getting to explosion point. It seems to me that this happens a lot to us with PD mayne one day in the near future they'll find a cure for it I certainly hope so I didn't realise how much of a problem this was till I asked my question. I thank all of you have offered advice and ways to try and combat this problem I feel sure that in some way one of us has found an answer to their problem and hope we can continue to help each other in some small way evem if just with a few kind words. I am not going to give in I have to much I want to do and things Alex ( my late Husband) and I had planned to do in the next few years and will try and do what we had talked about although I'm not sure about the one on the boat. An armful of hugs for you Best wishes Pam

It seems to go with the territory when one has PD. Everything I have read points to sleep issues. I know that I am writing this at 2:30 AM because, I went to bed, went to sleep and then woke up with my mind moving so rapidly, I could not go back to sleep. Unfortunately, this is the third night in a row.

Try Trazodone. It works wonderfully for my husband.

My husband takes Trazodone. It works to get him to sleep and wakes up without being groggy.

My "Mary" has always had trouble sleeping thru the night, and our family doctor got her to try - Alprazolam (Xanax) (0.5mg) tablet.... we usually break it in half, about an hour before we go to bed, and she has a wonderful night of rest . sleep... There is no drowsiness when she wakes up after 7-8 hrs sleep

Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety disorders and panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks). Maybe this might help.... Alan
