Orthostatic Hypotension
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was wondering if anyone shares my situation.I like many of us have orthostatic hypotension- My BP can go from 140/90 to 60/40 in seconds and obviously i get dizzy sometimes blacking out and losing consciousness. Then at times my BP is VERY high as in 220/110. When it gets high I have been sent to the ER and they insist on meds to lower it which then impacts the orthostatic hypotension. Hard to find a doc who understands this. At one point I was taking Northera which is specifically for… read more

I have it too. When I stand from sittiing, my BP drops about 40 points. And if it was low while sitting, it's not good, My cardiologist just did an echocardiogram which he says is fine. He gave me Amiodipine Besylate to take if it goes over 200 but since I got the prescription in early November, it's only been up to 199, so I haven't taken any, The last time it dropped to 80/43, I ended up in hospital, but they gave me a drip and lots of water and charged me $1700 + or -. When it's low, and I feel dizzy, I was told to sit or lie down--doesn't matter where you are. And eat something salty and drink lots of water. They say it's a PD symptom because the autonomic nervous system is off.

I have had double vision since I was 3 years old. Recently at the the age of 70 I had cataract surgery which has greatly helped my eyesight to the point I only need glasses for reading.

Thanks everyone. I'v e tried everything salts tabs, meds, compression stockings, hydrating, sleeping elevated, not exposing myself to extreme temps and I guess it is about managing the best you can because nothing really helps 100%. I can be ok one minute- but when I am not ok it;s full blackout. I just hate that it limits me from going out unaccompanied. I appreciate all the responses. I like the idea of the nephrologist- seems like a combo might be the way to go. when i was on the midodrine and fludrocortisone it was only that 3 x a day and nothing to balance it out.
Thanks everyone!

It happens to me all the time. I am mostly bedridden now, so when I'm moved in any way, I get dizzy and I passed out once. BP gets high at times. Get headaches. Then I take one Lasix tablet along with my 2 daily blood pressure medications and it goes down. Get used to taking blood pressure readings several times a day. Talk to your doctor about taking an extra tablet when it's real high. Less trips to ER.
