My Parkinson's is largely unilateral -- most symptoms are on my left side. About a year ago my left ankle and foot started swelling up. I've tried compression socks -- no real difference. My movement disorder specialist says it isn't my Parkinson's nor my meds -- as that would be bilateral. Veins and circulation in left leg are good. And yet my foot and ankle swell, and are painful too. My knees feel bloated too. Any suggestions from anyone? Thank you.
I am usually active throughout the day, and can usually bike about half an hour each day. Elevation doesn't seem to work, as I usually awaken with swelling in my foot. Thank you for the suggestions,
I had unilateral swelling of right foot, ankle, and three fingers. It started when I increased my Neupro from 4 miligrams to 6. I lived with it for 2 months then called my doctor who stated we could drop down the Neupro and add another med. I chose to drop back to 4 miligrams and not add new meds for now. I see the doctor every 6 months. The swelling decreased immediately. I had just changed my diet to gluten free and was feeling slightly better so the symptoms are ok. at lower level.
sometimes we must be patient patients, I suppose.
Other older patients tell me that there is always a very long wait but they don't mind because he is one of the best doctors in our town. Both waiting rooms were filled. Everyone became good friends while we waited. The doctor literally runs from one exam room to the other. He doesn't make you feel rushed though and that is good.

As I posted earlier, increasing Nuepro from 4 to 6 units resulted in swelling after only a few days. Moving back to level 4 resulted eliminating most of the swelling.
I tried the compression socks but only for a few days. No effect over that short time.
