Dementia
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone find that over the years, the physical symptoms have not worsened, or stay well controlled with meds, but that dementia has become the biggest problem? I realise that each person's symptoms are unique but just wondered if there are any statistics which show how many sufferers have dementia as the main concern with Parkinson's. Thanks.

I have a hearing problem and wear hearing aids. Since PD my husband speaks so low That I could not hear much of what he said. My hearing doctor prescribed a receiver that I wear around my neck and my husband wears a transmitter . I can hear him through my hearing aids. The only downside is it uses my batteries more quickly.

I have read that under the age of 65 it is not usual for PwP to have dementia but that after a PwP has had the disease for 20 years about 80% will have dementia.

We play memory games in the car., a lot of movie trivia., music works well. I also pull up pictures of family members on my computer screen, ask who they are, where do they belong to which family. Questions about our kids and grandkids, their activities, their age, what grade their in. Its constant repetition. He will be 72 in May and we will have our 50th wedding anniversary the end of the month. I still have time to continue to train him still..............Good luck Jenny.

My husband has PD and also diagnosed with Lewy body Dementia. He cannot walk. Some days he can walk a short distance with a walker. He forgets he can not walk and is alway trying to stand from his wheelchair or recliner. He has fallen numerous times. I have an alarm but I need to be present almost constantly.
