Would like to know the bad parts of the operation, how long was recouperation, was it difficult to be awake for the procedures, do you still have to take meds, can you drive a car?

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, oh, I just saw your post here and just answered your other post. OK while I got you, and you had dbs, I have a few questions, how many different settings did you have to go through before you saw some of your symptoms go away? I know there are hundreds of settings but nothing has done anything for me yet. And my symptoms seem to be getting worse since the dbs, could that be possible? Dr. told me to try to not take my meds that close together and to space them out more but I seem to need them more often than before. I usually take them every two hours, they wanted me to space them out to every three hours, but I could use them every hour and a half. Hope you can help me with my questions. Bean

Their were some bad times, but they were eliminated by the good times. It takes time to get the settings right but when they have it right it's great has been for 12years now. I haven't had an adjustment make in 4 years now. I was a Guinea pig for 3 years before that when different settings were tryed on me to get my speech back. It was a good try but to no luck. The DBS controls my tremors completely. I noticed a difference right at the surgery but they told me that was normal. The ten pills a day were not needed anymore but they told me that I should take sinemet at least,I now take 2.5 pills per day. That's all. It all. Depends on the experience of the surgeon in this field.they got to find the exact placement of the probs. I can go on and on but I think I'll end my conversation now. Good luck

Hey Zeger, did the DBS get rid of your stiffness, slow movement and walking problems (if you had any of those??) Also, my doctor says DBS consists of three separate operations,,, doing one side of head then the other and then going back for the third operation to hook up the two wire leads to the battery pack. Is this what you did?? Were you fine right after the operation, could you get up and go about your business? or did you need bed rest? How long after DBS did you feel a real improvement? Thanks for your answers. Bean
