Has Anyone Been Through Stem Cell Surgery For PD
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am reading many things about stem cell surgery for parkinsons lately on the web. I spoke to my doctor who said we are not there yet with stem cell surgery on the brain. But maybe he is not there yet with stem cell surgery and talks it down because he does not do it. Just a thought. My husband who had stem cell surgery on his knee (and it worked) is now going for stem cell surgery on the other knee. He thinks stem cell surgery is the next big thing for diseases on the horizon. Of course… read more

This is Beans husband... You may try Synvise 1 shot which is covered by insurance or Supartz injections. These will wear off in 3-4 months but you feel good for time being. I am active Softball player so my expectations are high and i do not take pain killers or ibuprofen as they make me bleed. Once you were scoped many doctors will not take more parts out even if it is a flap tear. You need parts to go back in. Which you know is not doable, hence knee replacement talk. Knee replacements last 10 years and have to be redone. Rehab is typical but if you plan to be a couch potato not so bad i'm told. I am 50 so knee replacement not an option i like. Stem cell is costly but so is out of pocket deductible. My first stem treatment added 1/8" of cartilage to my left knee plateau in 1 years time while playing hard on it. Cushion area... it helped with pain but still stiffens up with hard use. This Friday i am going for Stem Cell in Right knee which was scoped back in September 2015 but still bad. Swelling, stiffness, pain all the time. Stem cell is only hope. Or it's quitting time for softball.

I agree with you totally... That stem cell therapy will be the next greatest revolution in health care...

I am very interest to learn more about your husband's experience with stem cell therapy for his knee... I have 2 worn out knees that have been bone on bone for nearly 10 years now, from osteoarthritis damage.

Three years ago my shoulder was replaced by Dr Reuben Gobezie, a Orthopedic Surgeon, that is a Specialist in Sport Medicine, who recently expanded into Stem Cell Therapy... Regen Orthopedics.

Through advanced regenerative medicine treatments, your body’s own platelets and stem cells are activated to stimulate healing and speed repair for bone, muscle, joint, soft tissue, and nerve injuries. These pain therapies enable your body to repair injured tissues, reduce inflammation and ultimately heal itself.

Their approach is difference, because they want to make in affordable to the mass, since these regenerative medicine procedures are not covered by insurance... Their published cost is $4000.00 for first joint, $800.00 for second, and $800.00 for third joint all done at same time, in about 4 hours as out patient. Heck, my TSR cost $40,000.00 and I had to pay over $4,000.00 personally

Knowing first hand on how he preformed with my TSR, I feel confident that this therapy based on my own bone marrow, that gets concentrated, enhanced, and re-injected into the defective area of the joint needing repair, can eliminate the need for physical joint replacement, that I have refused to have done.

I do believe in a relatively short time, this type of therapy will be available for diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases... Alan

Hi Alan: I think this should answer your questions about knee stem cell procedure. My husband used his stem cells taken from his spine through a spinal tap and inserted into knee with a needle. His problem with his knee was severe arthritis due to breaking his knee back in 2008 while playing ball. Yes, he did have bone on bone. To see improvement was from 1-6 months. He first noticed a better feeling knee the first month and it kept getting stronger. Dr. Brian Maiocco did the procedure. He is at Orthopedic Specialists in Palm Harbor, Florida. Cost $3100. My husband had it done because he did not have any more parts which could have been removed from his knee, meniscus or scoped areas. Do the procedure if knee replacement or uni-knee replacement is being pitched by your doctor and you are under 70 years old, and you want to stay active. Rates for stem cell procedure: Miami Institute: 12,000, Orlando $8,800. My doctor $3,100. My husband is an active ball player and plays two nights a week plus tournaments so he relies on his knees. If you have any additional questions, let me know. Bean
