Hi, Although this is not a direct PD question, I thought somebody in this forum would know the answer. As part of my SSD I will be eligible for Medicare. However Medicare is per individual. So currently my wife and son are on the same policy (CAL COBRA ) from my ex-employer. My wife works in a small clinic part time. So she does not have medical insurance available. You can enter cover California with a "life event" and the end of Cal Cobra would be defined as such. Your dependents can then apply for insurance 69 days before to 60 days after the loss of COBRA. You should also look at Medi-Cal for yourself and family. My friends who are case managers tell me that anyone with Medi- Medi has great coverage. I lose our Cobra in January but can't qualify for SS disability and Medicare due to my work participating in an alternative to SS. While I will be eligible for Medicare at 65, we will be paying health care insurance premiums for 8 more years. Hope this helps

Thanks Marty for your helpful advice. Is medi-cal accepted by major providers in California ? I ask this because I would like to keep my current doctor, psychiatrist and neurologist for continuing to get good treatment. Also what is the advantage of medi-care then ? Medi-care is per individual and also more complicated. What do I gain by taking it vs medi-cal ? Sorry for the naive questions. Thanks for your help.
