My husband has the balance issues and It scares me when I start to see him accidently go sideways. I keep reminding him about the bigger steps, or not leaning over to pick up things...because he falls and actually knocked a tooth out of his plate and bit his lip hard.... but with all the reminders, he gets upset. I have had to learn to sometimes be quiet, cringe...but trust that he'll use his common sense. I can't follow him around and he certainly doesn't want me to. I just help him back up and pray he won't hurt himself too much. Its so scary for me because his Mom died falling down the stairs and its hard to get that out of my brain.

I stagger or walk sideways instead of foreard ...I become dizzy if I look.....but because I've done a balancing course I walk much better.in fact I can even run a bit...........don't take small steps walk normal around things hold onto something if you must.........

A first, yes my balance was affected. But all of this is reversible. I used to stumble, trip, stagger, take small steps turning around, over step, not be able to stand on one leg or to do steps without a hand rail. Now I can! Retrain your neural pathways with physical therapy, exercise, dancing, or simply analyze how it is done & think your way to a normal motion & practice it until new neural pathways are formed. If a violinist can train themselves to play faster than they can think by practicing & building new neural pathways (I know, I have done it), then we can reteach ourselves the movements we think we have "lost". I am doing it - it works.

Hi Karole, is this class sponsored by a pd group or something you just found out about on your own.... I need to do something because sometimes when I walk it is like i am intoxicated and it is only 7 am in the morning so unless my wife is spiking my tea in the morning I haven't had anything to drink at all. I feel very uncomfortable thinking that my neighbors are going to start following me to see where I am going to get my free drinks..

all of those. Suggest you take a balance class. The one I took (A Matter of Balance), is free and offered pretty much every where. Hope it helps.
