Simply, any moderate movement that you enjoy will help your balance: dancing, gardening, walking, biking, Tai Chi, etc. Remember not to go crazy! I wouldn't suggest expert skiing!

My husband, David, has recently become a participant in the BIG program at Emory which takes place in the neurology building # 12 in Executive Park. It is a PT program for which your doctor needs to write you a prescription and David does this 3 to 4 times a week. Because he's no longer driving, I drive and go into the sessions with him. The Physical Therapists are Teriffic ! And David is working SOOO VERY HARD each session( a full hour one on one). They're really helping him with balance and his ability to get up out of bed and his ability for standing up from a sitting position unaided. He has a daily routine of exercises which I do too and they are strenuous because you are doing them BIGLY as our president elect is known to say.. No politics here! We realize that the over exaggeration of the movements is extremely helpful. Even the counting off of each exercise of each set is said loudly. He hasn't participated in the LOUD part of the program yet, due to scheduling. We highly recommend this program! Our friends are commenting how well David is walking and that he looks good, sounds good, like he was the old David!
On another note, one must put that comment in perspective. It is said with love and caring and good intention, but on the receiver end of it or rather I say the care partner end of it, it sometimes saddens me but of course it makes me hopeful too.
