Anybody have any experience with taking Mannitol an OTC Sweetner. Suppose to cross the brain blood barrier and produce a positive impact. Not a cure but a interesting aleviation to symptoms.

I started taking it ten days ago and I think it's helping with some of my symptoms. I am much more alert in the daytime and have not taken a nap or wanted one during the daytime. My gait is more normal, less shuffling and foot dragging. The brain fog has lifted, too, and I can think more clearly. It has not helped my sleep much and has not helped my gastroparesis. i think that's good improvement for ten days! I will continue taking it and hope eventually it will help with sleep issues. (It is supposed to help with tremors, but tremors aren't my main issues.)

Yes I have been using mannitol for a year . Use it in all breads and baked goods. Take 1 tablespoon with coffee and coconut oil and Ceylon cinnamon each morning. Used by diabetics as sugar substitute. Safe. If it helps, why not?

@Robkreading on another site that mannitol powder mixed in food is absorbed better than diluting in liquid.

I take 1 tablespoon a day. It's just an artificial sweetener--The only side effect of large doses is diarrhea, so you can play around with dosage.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I have read your comments with great interest. Sending you information about Peoples Pharmacy guest Dale Bredesen MD Duke University where you can read about his dietary/supplement criteria for reversing Alzheimers aired again March 2016. Lots of interesting information including fasting in evening hours.
